Effect of Strategic Human Resources Management (HRM) Practices on Perceived Financial Performance of Non-Governmental Organizations: Empirical Evidence from RDRS Bangladesh

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to identify the certain strategic human resource management (HRM) practices (strategic recruitment and selection, strategic training and development, strategic reward and compensation and strategic performance appraisal) and to determine the relationship between strategic HRM practices and perceived financial performance (measured in  fundraising efficiency, financial transparency, programs/ projects financial efficiency ) of Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) using RDRS Bangladesh as a case. The study administered 70 questionnaires to all staffs employed at central office of RDRS Bangladesh. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the study. The findings revealed that as an NGO RDRS Bangladesh embraced strategic HRM practices and it had positive effect on the perceived financial performance. The results of the study recommended that appropriate strategic HRM practices could be useful for enhancing financial performance of NGO sector in Bangladesh. This study examines delinquency management practices, causes of delinquency, and find out the ways of improving loan delinquency in private commercial banks in the context of Bangladesh. A sample of 250 primary observations has been collected through a self-administered questionnaire using a simple random sampling method from the target population during 2017-2018. The target population includes credit and recovery officers, individual and institutional borrowers from 30 private commercial banks in Bangladesh. To analyze the findings, the descriptive statistics of the variables are used and the results are presented in the frequency tables. This paper exposes that, loan client assessment, collateralized lending, sending reminder messages to the borrowers, credit monitoring, setting realistic terms of credit, and insurance of loans are the delinquency management practices in private commercial banks. This research also reveals that improper selection of a loan client, lack of follow up, unhealthy competition among banks, lack of proper analysis of project viability, higher interest rate, under financing/over financing, poor economic conditions, and information asymmetry are main causes of loan delinquency. This study also discloses that, strict adherence to credit policy, visiting client after loan disbursement, proper valuation of security, regular/timely release of funds, training and advice given to loan clients, loan given to business not against collateral, post loan services, fixation of lower interest rates, and proper documentation before disbursement can be main strategies of improving loan delinquency in private commercial banks. The findings of this research would help private commercial banks to reduce non-performing loans and improve delinquency management. Key Words: Delinquency management, non-performing loans, commercial banks, Banglades

The Impact of Capital Structure on the Profitability of Publicly Traded Manufacturing Firms in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
This research explores the impact of capital structure on the profitability of publicly traded manufacturing firms in Bangladesh. In this paper, we applied the fixed effect regression to find out the correlation among independent variables (debt ratio, equity ratio and debt to equity ratio) and dependent variables (return on asset, return on equity and earnings per share). A sample of 50 observations of selected 10 manufacturing companies listed in Dhaka Stock Exchange has been analyzed over the period of 2013 to 2017. This research reveals that the debt ratio and equity ratio have a significant positive impact but debt to equity ratio has a significant negative impact on ROA. This paper also exposes that, equity ratio has a significant positive impact but debt to equity ratio has a significant negative impact on ROE. Finally, debt and equity ratio has a significant negative impact on EPS. Findings of this research will help the listed manufacturing companies to maintain an optimum capital structure which will lead to the maximization of stockholders wealth

Numerical Prediction of Laminar Characteristics of Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Finned-Tube Heat Exchangers

This study is performed to determine the characteristics of fin and tube heat exchanger for the plain and wavy fin configurations considering in lined and staggered tube arrangements for laminar flow regime. This analysis has been conducted using Commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics Code ANSYS CFX-11. The results are expressed in terms of friction factor (f) and the Colburn factor (j) and efficiency index (j/f).The code was validated by comparing the results obtained with the previously investigated experimental data. The effects of different geometrical parameter such as Longitudinal pitch, Transverse Pitch, Fin Pitch, Wavy angle on the heat transfer and the pressure drop were investigated. This study reveals that the flow distinction between plain and wavy fin has a profound influence on the heat transfer and pressure drop performance. It was observed that, increasing the longitudinal and transverse pitch causes a decrease in the thermal and hydraulic performance of the heat exchanger for low Reynolds Number problem. The result for the fin pitch study indicated that decrease in the fin pitch causes a decrease in both heat transfer and friction characteristics significantly. Effect of water based nanofluids on laminar convective heat transfer in developing region of rectangular channel

Researches involving mixing very little amount of nano-sized solid additives to base fluid have gained popular interest to develop enhanced convective heat transfer techniques. The dispersion of solid particles in such nanofluids changes the thermo physical properties of the working fluid such as viscosity, thermal conductivity, density and specific heat. Therefore, nanofluids have enhancement potential in heat transfer performance compared to normal working fluids. Additionally, most of the researches regarding heat transfer enhancement by using nanofluids considered circular tube as the geometry conducted on developed region. However, in many industry or heat generated equipment, rectangular channels are generally used as a flow path for fluid flowing to conduct heat transfer application. Therefore, the analysis of heat transfer through the entire section of channel (both developing and developed region) is important to understand flow behavior along with heat transfer performance of the entire section for industrial operation. In this study, convective heat transfer of laminar nanofluids in developing region of a rectangular channel was numerically investigated using finite volume method and single-phase approach with ANSYS Fluent software. Four nanoparticles (Al2O3, CuO, SiC and TiO2) with different volume fraction (1% - 5%) were used to mix with water to produce water based nanofluids. The heat transfer was analysed for a constant Reynolds numbers 700 with a constant heat flux 500 W/m2 applied on the channel wall. Results demonstrated 2% to 13.38% enhancement in heat transfer coefficient with the presence of 1 to 5% nanoparticles concentration, respectively, in comparison to pure water. Meanwhile, results in terms of Nusselt number showed an increase of 1.5% to 13.36% as compared to pure water for the same range of nanoparticles concentration, respectively. From these results, it can be deduced that higher nanoparticles volume fraction results in higher heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number. Moreover, CuO-water nanofluid provides the highest enhancement in terms of both heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number while Al2O3-water nanofluid provides lowest enhancement in terms of both heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number among all nanofluids considered in this study. From this study, it can be concluded that water-based nanofluids provide enhancement of heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number for laminar developing region of a rectangular channel
